One of the blogs I follow has recently been posting these 30 Days of Truth writing prompts. (See list here: http://hope.gr/30-days-of-truth/ ) I thought, what a great idea!
A band or artist that has gotten you thru (Letter)
I guess if you know me, you know EXACTLY who Ill be writing this to!
Dear Robert Smith (from The Cure [in case you were wondering])
I want to thank you for writing the songs that youve written. Your music and lyrics are always on my mind.
No matter what type of day Im having, I can listen to one of your albums and be instantly taken away. Your lyrics are so embedded in my brain, that I can always sing a song just based on conversation.
I can clearly remember walking into the record store with my dad when I was about 8 years old. I saw this crazy album (photo below) and thought, thats an interesting cover – I asked my dad to buy it for me. (and oddly enough he did).
I listened to this album non-stop. My parents really were tired of it….and then we were in the record store again and I asked if there were any new “Cure” albums. I was led into what would be my favorite section of the record store, The Imports 🙂
My next purchase (with my very own money this time) would be one of my favorite Cure albums, even to this day…Seventeen Seconds.
Then….when I was about 11, The Cure totally changed me. This album literally called out to me.
This album is my favorite. Dont let the title fool you tho. I can honestly say that THIS album completely changed my life. I became full-on-devoted-Cure-a-holic. FULL ON.
The rest is history.
I have purchased EVERY Cure album since….and even got the remasters with the B-Sides…..Ive been to see them in concert many times, even getting a chance for a brief meeting with Robert and Simon which is my claim to fame. (Even tho meeting East Bay Ray from the Dead Kennedys was awesome too!)
But….not a day goes by that I dont play at least one song from The Cure. NOT A DAY.
The Cure and Robert Smith have shaped who I am, and have gotten me thru almost 40 years. Their discography is nothing short of amazing.
Even my bf who at one time said he wouldnt even listen to em, actually enjoys a good bit of that theyve put out and has been to at least 3 Cure concerts.
